We all know that cloaking is a great way to make safe advance and retreat. It is commonly used as reconnaissance or spying/intelligence. It is definitely better than any static sentry in observer mode (to activate observer mode, dhlore.boards.net/post/87/thread ). It sure carries its risks as well. I just had an assumption that cloaking may or may not, serve a a continual supply of flaring. I tried testing, and it seems to act as a flare against the seeker projectiles. I would really know as I don't have the findings. Maybe someone can step in?

The cloak masks your heat and radar signature, so a MAV shooting a homing missile at a cloaked scout cannot get a target lock. I personally never liked the cloak back when the game was active. If it was used as a method to steal a core or to evade, I didn't mind it, but we had certain players who would just use it to swoop in and shoot you in the back then run away. It spoiled allot of the action and quite frankly wasn't very honorable. I guess it was kind of how the British veiwed the U-boats in WWII.

Heh back in the day I remember people (like Sling lol) who didn't like cloaking, I personally don't mind it since scouts are so weak they can't really have a fight without it, and it makes them more viable. It also added to the variety of play, looking out for footprints and smoke, etc. I do admit if almost everyone is cloaking it becomes less fun.

Cloaking may or may not hide against vibration/audio sensors. Anyone thought of that? Oh well.
I just like how cloaking is quite convenient against heat seeking missiles. Cloaking cannot defend a barrage of cannon fire, got too confident right there.
Maybe we can balance cloaking? What if we had a limited supply of cloak (duration)? Maybe we could have both the cloaking and flare button as a set of weapon/utility options. A lot of variety! I can use flare, but it also requires quite the helicopter piloting skills. To me, I consider flares as the worst tool for MAVs. Unless it serves as a distraction, like a flash grenade or something distracting enough for bots, it is just a probability based defense against heat seeking missiles. You can hardly evade all spider homing missiles. Since MAVs are machines, I don't see why it cannot have flare/smokescreen/intercepting/anti-ballistic projectiles/missiles. Those projectiles/missiles could also be used offensively, if there's no viable homing or heat seeking missiles. Maybe I am asking for too much for a flare substitute/replacement. Maybe intercepting/anti-ballistic missiles need they own tracking devices? I think flare/smokescreen projectiles would work somehow. If not, we can opt for a movement speed powerup (with different versions) as a flare substitute/replacement. The cost would eat up health and energy in tics during movement.
Other than that, I don't mind having variety with the cloak. If the cloak gets omitted (from the skunkworks version), it's okay. Balance changes can be made. They all have their own perks and quirks.
